Our Three Day weekend - Chapter III

Today was a good day.

This morning we hit the deck kind of early after a very good night's rest, to prepare for a fishing trip with Downriver Sherry and Robert. They were dropping by to pick us up at 10:00 and we are heading for Shimmiehorn Pond. After a breakfast of corny grits, sausage, eggs, we took care of the horse herds, put together our lunch works and stacked up our fishing gear and everything else next to the driveway awaiting Robert and Sherry's prompt arrival. Like clockwork here they are at 10 o'clock.

Today we had another beautiful ride into the mountains through cool air and bouquets of wildflowers on our way to the pond. We arrived at the pond about 11:30 and promptly Sherry and Kittee geared up and went to fishing. Robert had sprung his ankle this morning and was moving rather slowly. Myself, I just don't get in a hurry as I savor the scenery and the moment of being alive.

It was shortly after getting to the pond, making a few cast that Sherry hooked up the largest catch of the day. After I got to the pond with my newly designed fly and made a few cast I caught a fish and creeled it. After that it was a while before Sherry caught another, then another, then another.

As the rest of us was spending our time casting and watching Sherry catch fish, we decided to take a beer break. Thereafter everyone fished on, but the bite got slow and proceeded to no, so we took a lunch break about 2:30.

Lunch was wonderful, with coldcuts, cheeses, mac and potato salads, beer and brownies. All a crew of fishers could ask for in the middle of the day, sitting in the shade on the top of a mountain. Temperature most of the day was registering around 64ยบ.

After lunch with the fishing being slow for everyone except Sherry, Kittee and I proceeded to join Sherry... running around in the meadow grasses catching grasshopper - Sherry #1 fish catchers.

With that hopper Kittee caught the second largest fish of the day.

After putting hoppers on our hooks Kittee and I caught one more fish apiece, and the pond went dead, we then looked at taking another beer break. After a short bit of no catching, we decided since Robert's ankle was tired and swollen, Kittee's broken foot was beginning to hurt, we would call it quits and head back to the Walla Walla River Valley.

Today was a good day,
and we had lots of fun with the Sallee's.

After arriving home and off loading our gear, I cleaned fish, Kittee checked on the horses, we had a light dinner and called it a day; a weekend well spent. We were POOPED.

And that's the way it is around the ranch this weekend. Hope you are having FUN.

Peace

Dale
