Family style BBQ ribs -or- Rosey is V weeks old today

Stardate 060108

It is usually two or three times a year that we try to create or join into a get together with our west coast family that live in the Pendleton area. For Kittee and I, having family and friends come together for laughter, a chatting, a meal, good times, these are enough reasons for calling a Holiday.

In years past we have tried to have our family get together here at the ranch, the last weekend of May or early June. A family circle-up time for good communion and a ranch BBQ meal. By tradition, where Dale and Aunt Pat comes from BBQ is not a noun; it's an adjective for good slow cooked food using wood smoke not gas flaring.
For Kittee and I, sitting around having a meal of BBQ ribs, BBQ beans, coleslaw, etc. with our family and friends in the great outdoors with the smell of wood smoke in the air is an occasion that is hard to beat. Will you join us sometime?

Yesterday the weather was great for just that occasion, as everyone was able to come out for the afternoon, except cousin Brilynn who had a bad cold. We were also happy to have Elsie (Lois' mom) and Lucy (Lois' granddaughter) join us this year. Lucy has joined us a couple of times in years past for our family get together and it is neat to watch her growing, year-to-year. We have always enjoyed watching her, having fun and playing around the yard and with the pony sisters.

This year Lucy was big enough to ride Jasmine and told us that next year she wants to ride Ginger (Ginger is not yet been saddle broke). Each time Lucy come out to the ranch, she takes the time to hose the ponies, and just laughs and laughs. It is fun to watch this play/ interaction of little girl and ponies that love to get wet.

Also this year we had cousin Nicole to join us at McKuster Ranch as she was taking a break from her job in Ashland, coming home for a long weekend (her sister's graduation weekend). After this weekend at home she will be taking a break to go to St. Thomas Island for a couple of weeks with her sister and Mom, before heading out for a new job working on the Ted Turner's buffalo ranch in New Mexico.
Yep, Nicole is quite a whirlwind character, and seems to always have something on the go. She is hoping to work on her MS in anthropology at the Univ. of Wisconsin while doing the annual seasonal job at the NM buffalo ranch. Anyone interested in hunting buffalo? Thank you, cousin Worth for the buffalo meat you brought to us this weekend. Looking forward to trying this extra lean red delicacy.
As the afternoon progressed everyone found a comfortable place to rest. Getting up ever so often to stretch the legs we made several trips out to the barn area to visit, ponies, Rusty, Shaiela/ Rosey, and just stroll the grounds. Kittee and Lucy did have a couple of foot races back and forth to the barn during the afternoon.

As it was Nicole's first trip to the ranch, she said that she did enjoy this family gathering, the food, and the drink. She is allot of fun to have around, and hope she will find time to come back again.

After dinner all the family/company headed back to P-ton, and Kittee and I went out and played with horses, ponies and Rosey.

This was Rosey's 5-week old birthday and she is growing just about as fast and the weeds in our garden. As the sun was sinking quickly in the west, we were able to get a few shot of her running around the pasture as she does many days now.

She is lots of fun to watch and play with, and we are amazed at how fast she is growing.

This past week Dale and Cheri Cosper dropped by to see Rosey and Rusty, and Dale thinks that Rosey may go gray (like her mom) in the coat. It will be very interesting as we watch this girl grow up over the next couple of years.

Our current asking price for Rosey, daughter of AHA SF SHAIELA (as a weanling) is $20,000 US.

Thus another day in the life at McKuster Ranch --- Dale
